In 2013 Profound Decisions will be launching Empire, our new fest LRP game to replace Maelstrom. Set in a great empire beset by barbarians and enemies on all sides, the characters will be challenged to restore and extend their realms and fortunes. This will be an exciting new world with a simple downtime system, driving epic uptime battles against the enemies of the Empire.
Work on Empire started in 2010 but development did not began in earnest until the end of 2011, when we announced that 2012 would be the final year for Maelstrom. We have been hard at work on the new game since then and while there is still a huge amount to do, the game is beginning to take shape. Our plan is to release content about the new game in stages; as and when it becomes complete. In this way we hope to include the whole LRP community in the development of the game.
The launch of Odyssey, our mythic setting inspired by the classical era, was accompanied by a design blog, with entries discussing the game and the theory behind it. This was popular with players and also useful to us, as it allowed us to communicate the spirit of the game. So this introduction is the first blog entry in a regular series of updates that will try to communicate some of the ideas that are forming part of the new game. We'll try to update it regularly, so call back often to stay in touch with the latest news on Empire.
If you want to be kept regularly informed about Empire updates, the best way to do that is to register an account and tick the option to receive Empire email notifications. We promise not to spam you about anything other than the games you ask for emails about. If you already have an account then click here to update your details to receive emails about Empire.
There is a thriving community of live-roleplayers interested in Empire on Facebook. The link on the right will take you to the Facebook community page where you can chat to other players interested in the games.
