Welcome to the crew organisation section of the Wiki. Here you will find a list of departments for the Empire game system, listing what each department does, who is in charge and who the staff in that department are. Don&#039;t hesitate to get in touch with a head of department if you are interested in working in that area.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
==Site Set-up Crew==&lt;br /&gt;
The set-up crew help us get the event ready by putting up tents, setting up the electrics, etc. Those who are helping with set-up need to be on site roughly two days before time-in. Those who are helping with take-down need to be on site until roughly one day after time-out. We aim to complete take-down by nightfall the day after the event.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
If you are part of the set-up crew then you are encouraged to get involved and take part in crewing the rest of the event, but if you prefer to play then you are welcome to do that instead. Bear in mind though that you might be called on during the event to help with the set-up for the battles and so on.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;

The site crew, or Red Caps as they are affectionately known, are responsible for overseeing all OOC logistics on site, particularly during set up and take down, as well as site health and safety.&lt;br /&gt;

The electricians are in charge of plugging things into other things, bringing power to all the areas of the field that need it to run the facilities and the game. We supply power to the Tavern and the traders on the IC field, GOD and Plot/Monster for running the game, and the facilities blocks and food vendors on the OC field.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Whichever team you&#039;re working with, it&#039;s important that you don&#039;t plug anything in without checking with the sparkies first - we have a limited quantity of power available on site, and a major part of what we do is making sure the phases are balanced, and that we can run everything we need to without tripping the breakers.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Responsible for the on site distribution of electrical power and the off site building of new projects as well as maintenance and periodic inspection.&lt;br /&gt;

==Event Crew==&lt;br /&gt;
The event crew help us to run the event, filling a wide variety of roles. Event crew write and run plot, they play NPC roles throughout the weekend and man areas like GOD and the tavern. Event crew are allocated to a single department, based on their primary role at the event, but you can be a member of more than one department and help out in different areas if you want to do so.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Event crew will be busy most of the event, so it is not possible to play the game and be a member of the event crew. Event crew are welcome to take some time off during the event and roleplay and socialize with friends by playing a zero point character. You should avoid playing roles such as spies, assassins and political aides as they’re more fitting for player characters than crew enjoying the game during a break.&lt;br /&gt;

The goal of our ref jackets is to produce a garment that allows our refs to be easily identified, yet also allows them to move around the IC area without obviously disrupting the immersion of the game. To help achieve this, it is important for refs to try and ensure that they wear costume at the event, rather than modern clothing.&lt;br /&gt;

Everyone wants a radio - they&#039;re exciting and cool. They&#039;re also expensive and we tend to lose one an event, costing a thousand pounds a year to replace. The more people who have radios, the harder it is to keep track of them, and the harder it is to use them with more people on each channel. For these reasons it is important to limit the number of radios we use and to ensure that everyone uses proper radio protocol.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
==Allocation==&lt;br /&gt;
Radios are allocated to crew in advance of the event - do not take a radio unless it has your name on it.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Radio allocation is done through the departments - if you believe that you need a radio then speak to your department head. It is the responsibility of the department heads to ensure that they have enough radio users in their department.&lt;br /&gt;

==Radio Protocol &amp;amp; Use==&lt;br /&gt;
When you want to speak to someone on a radio, press the speak button, wait half-a-second (it takes a moment to engage) and then say your name clearly and ask for the person or department you want to talk to.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Several channels have high levels of use - do not hold a conversation with another radio user on any channel that is for contact purpose. Use the contact channel to locate the person you want to talk to and then then go to an adjacent conversation channel to communicate with them.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
In particular, please do not swear over an open radio channel, as this is illegal. I appreciate nobody ever gets done for it, but swearing and playing games on the radio risks getting us into trouble and is a pain in the ass for those people who are trying to work.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
==Emergencies==&lt;br /&gt;
Any [[Crewing#emergency|emergency]] at an event should be reported by radio to the relevant head of department. If your radio channel is being used to convey emergency information then you do not use that radio channel for any other reason. Keep the channel clear so that the crew who are responding to the emergency can use it.&lt;br /&gt;
