			House Vortekar is an ancient and secretive house, formed by Viola van Vortekar in Murderdale. Citadel Nocturnum was chosen as a home and place of studying the Night realm. When the Empire formed, the house joined with the rest of Dawn. When the Druj claimed Murderdale, the house survived by using Night magic until Dawn's return.

			After the reclamation of the Barrens in 385YE, the house has thrown itself into raising its influence through politics and wealth, driven to never again go into hiding. Vortekar pride themselves on their Ambition, often pushing moral, legal, and religious limits in pursuit of Glory.

			Life within the house is unpredictable, since the tests are often warped by nepotism or so harsh that many knights-errant fall, or vanish, depending upon the Earl’s mood. Most members are witches and weavers who are dedicated to perfecting their magical arts, backed up by an order of knights charged with guarding the Citadel. Advocates and retainers work in the shadows, gathering secrets in an attempt to curry favour among the nobility.

			The abode of the house, Citadel Nocturnum, lies in Murderdale. Constructed from black stone and pale marble, it falls into the shadow of Hope’s Rest mountains. Inside are great libraries, ritual halls, gardens, and training grounds.

			Following a number of tests of resolve, Lord Don Tonberry was named Earl of the house, and alongside the rebuilding of Drycastle, Tonberry Keep has now also been rebuilt, and the House has returned to its ancestral home for the first time since the Druj destroyed it years prior.

The newly minted Earl has sworn to learn from this and never leave the House in such a situation again, and the House has since focused on healing, on repair and unity. Alongside their allies in the Amber Lance, Berinore fights on the battlefield to ensure as many glorious heroes make the return to Anvil as possible, and works within Anvil with a focus on the same unity. True glory for those of House Berinore acknowledges the contributions of nobles and yeofolk alike, each bringing glory in their way.
