The Iron Roundtower – description of location
 +
 +
The Iron Roundtower, or the Iron Tower as it is becoming increasingly known, is located on the road south west of Delev, not far from the Eternal Shafts of Time. The structure is a vast, four-story roundhouse built with blocks of close-fitted stone and reinforced with thick plates of iron that cover its external walls – the redeeming feature from which the fortified outpost derives its name.

From the centre of the Iron Tower rises a second slimmer tower, also plated in iron. The top of this tower is fluted so that the upper room extends out over the central column. It is ringed with a balcony and capped with a gleaming roof of shaped tiles both of which are constructed of gleaming mithril. This is the home of the Bargainer of the Iron Tower and serves as both look-out post and lighthouse to those navigating their way through the treacherous paths amid the dark, foreboding forests of Varushka. Even on a typically dull day, rays of sunlight are reflected across the forests of Kerov and the blaze of light from the tower acts as a welcome sign to both road-weary travellers looking for a moment’s respite and to the determined, rugged merchants who are brave enough to navigate the Varushkan byways.

From the Delev road, a wide, shallow ramp rises towards twin hardwood doors sheathed in iron plates and embossed with the iron skulls that sport downward-curving horns, the single entrance to the Roundtower and the path that all travellers and traders must pass through to conduct business within its market halls. The inner walls are braced with mithril arches that rise from the substructure and curve gracefully overhead until being braced within the Bargainer’s Tower, at the heart of the building. These arches span the largely empty, circular hall that forms the market proper.

Suspended from the mithril arches hang friezes of exquisitely etched mithril that tell the tale of the Tower’s construction. These murals show the ambitious and prosperous merchants of Varushka discussing the virtues of their plan, reaching an accord, working together to secure the support and funding required, bidding for an Imperial Wayleave and succeeding, it subsequently being presented to the Boyar of the Sovereign’s Head as a wedding gift on behalf of all of Varushka, the Volhov Dragomir Dragovich announcing with great pride to the Imperial Senate that this structure will be built, the Varushkan labourers constructing the tower and the subsequent prosperity enjoyed by all those engaged with the trading post.

Above the door to the Bargainer Of The Iron Tower’s well defended mithril vault is a simple plaque that reads “A place where Varushkan merchants may deal in Varushkan mithril for the benefit of Varushkan buyers!”.
