They met with Jodeya, who revealed she was working for Blood on the Snow and that she wished to become his Herald. She gave the visitors three choices: To kill Jodeya there and then, to kill her (unnamed) companion, or to leave, in which case more letters would be sent until someone was found who would do it. It didn't seem to matter to Jodeya which murder was committed. Either would make the eternal “happy”. There appeared to be no discussion about any “mutual interests”,

Anvil Court Report for Autumn 384

Crimes Description Accused & plea Verdict & punishment
Idolatry

(Judgement thirty one Autumn 384)
The condemned, an Asavean refugee, was accused of worshipping gods and refusing to convert to the way. The Court found that they had been private in their worship – just like the vast majority of foreigners present in the Empire. As no harm to the Empire was established, the punishment followed suit.

Legate Glaucia Heminia plead guilty. Skywise Rykana plead clemency on grounds of wisdom. Guilty. Fined one ring.
Assault The accused assaulted Voidan Silou of Dawn with a weapon, striking him with a powerful blow. This was because the victim told his sister that House Orzell are dickheads. The fine was increased due both to his position and the fact he did it with forethought and knowledge of illegality. Valentin Orzell plead guilty with no clemency.
Guilty.

Fined one throne.
Assault The accused assaulted Gaspar de Tassato Regario for insulting him, despite being warned not to do so. The fine was increased due both to his position and the fact he did it with forethought and knowledge of illegality. Veikko Bondforger Cardinal of Loyalty plead guilty. Clemency plead by Ethene of Seghold Hall
Guilty.

Fined one throne.
Treason The accused cursed a Faraden citizen, Altin Valtar, after being accused of cheating at cards (See 384 Spring Court Reports). The curse prevented the victim from communicating. Expert witness Ulric Vernof of Winter Spire gave evidence that the curse was consistent with the methodology of the Whisper Gallery and that it is not castable by one person. The accused claimed she won the curse in a card game from a Herald of Lashonar but could not describe the Herald, how the curse was transferred or how she cast it given she claimed to have no magical power. The Court inferred that the accused was attempting to conceal a treasonous interaction with the Whisper Gallery. Mockingbird the mountebank of Sarvos plead not guilty. Guilty. Execution.
Slavery and assault The accused, a Faraden citizen transported Mockingbird of Sarvos to Anvil for trial on suspicion of treason. Mockingbird was kept in multiple heavy chains for days and had been extensively beaten while bound. These facts were not disputed. The Court found that their treatment of the prisoner was disproportionate and far exceeded what was reasonable for lawful custody to such a sustained extent that it was deemed slavery. Altin Valtar plead guilty no clemency.
Guilty

Fined twenty thrones
Attempted murder The accused attempted to murder Veikko Bondforger both on Saturday night and Sunday morning. He claimed to have done this because he believed the victim to be Ratibor reborn and therefore must be killed. He said that if he were released he would continue his attempts to kill the victim. Alexander Bentakuv plead guilty no clemency. Guilty. Execution
Murder Descartese of Urizen was mortally wounded, on the battlefield. His deeply held Ambition was that he should die cleanly by the sword, not a lingering death in his bed. He called for his friend, Aurum, and after gathering further friends and colleagues of Urizen (including Philostrate, his Egregore) to witness that this was done well and without deceit, Aurum solemnly carried out the task.

It was clear from the investigation that none had understood the legal implications of such an act – that a citizen cannot consent to their own death and that the law does not concern itself with how many moments that citizen had left to live.

Aurum of the Nightingale Temple of Urizen plead guilty.

A clemency plea was made by Lenarius Ankarien of Urizen on grounds of Loyalty
Guilty, fined two thrones of which one throne was given to the egregore for him him to spend it on something to remember the Ambition of Aurum to the people of Urizen.
Murder The two accused, along with Brother Geoffrey Orchard of Pickham Monastery all received identical letters from Jodeya Watiker di Tassato Mestra inviting them to a secret meeting at a bar in Kahraman to discuss “mutual interests”. All three used a conjunction during this summit to take up the offer.

Brother Geoffrey withdrew and returned to Anvil, apparently to buy time for the others to learn more. At a moment when the bar was empty both the accused murdered Jodeya and escaped before the barkeep returned. Both handed themselves in to the militia.

The court was content that Vigilance had guided them to commit the murder, but was not convinced that it was the correct choice.

Agnes Tapinson of the Woven Saplings of Navarr and Decimus Starchaser of Starchaser Spire, Urizen. Both plead guilty with clemency plead by Brother Martin Orchard of Pickham Monastery (for Agnes) and Lochias of Oblivions Edge (for Decimus) on the grounds of vigilance.
Guilty, fined 5 thrones each.

The court further warned them that if they accept any form of boon from Blood on the Snow as reward for their deed then they would face a charge of treason.
Attempted Murder On Saturday night of the summit Mathilda Fisher, came to Anvil under a flag of peace to make her demands regarding Bregasland. She met with representatives of the Empire at the Senate building and a large crowd of Marchers gathered to protest.

The accused conspired with Tomothy Crowle to break through the security cordon around the meeting and try to kill her. Thanks to the vigilance of the Senate Guard and Militia the attack failed and both were arrested. Tomothy was healed from his wounds and then released to the Marcher mob but later died, having “popped his stitches”.

Jacob Fenner formerly of Bregasland and a citizen of the Marches plead guilty. Clemency was plead by Sister Meredith of the Boundary folk on grounds of loyalty.
Guilty.

Sentenced to a five throne fine to be paid via the magistrates to the Marcher warchest and a voluntary brand of Irremais.
