Anvil Court Report for Summer 383

Crimes Description Accused & plea Verdict & punishment
Criminal damage and assault (aiding and abetting) The accused raised a judgement (Spring 383/14) to incite citizens to desecrate the works of Almodin Oktistis. The resultant mobs caused substantial damage to these works.
In Tassato the mob broke into the Imperial Mint and engaged with the Mint Guard, causing a number of non-fatal injuries and extensive damage to Lorenzo’s Legacy of Ambition.

The clemency plea satisfied the magistrate that the accused could not rely upon others (that is, the Senate) and that virtue demanded action.

Rafael Barossa di Tassato pleaded guilty to both charges.

Clemency was pleaded on his behalf by Astrid Fjellrevening Rezia di Tassato, the Cardinal of Pride.

Guilty of criminal damage – no punishment.Guilty of assault –fined one throne.

No direction was made with regards to any potential civil claims arising from this crime, potential claimants should speak to Magistrate Cooper.
Mayhem
The accused carried out a skein reading upon Leofric Baerson who then broke their oath not to reveal the results. The accused demanded that Leofric be cut as punishment, and this took the form of destroying Leofric’s left eye, without consent. It was not possible for physicians to save the eye and it is believed that magical methods are now required.

Keston of Wintermark pleaded guilty.

Clemency pleaded on grounds of wisdom by Leofric Baerson.
Guilty.
The accused is required, at his own expense, to arrange for Leofric’s eye to be healed by the end of the Autumn Summit or face further punishment.
Heresy and Abuse of powers
The accused preached heresy against the Imperial Orcs for two hours outside their camp. Evidence was presented that she did so under an aura of hatred, which appeared to have spontaneously manifested. The accused raised the judgement of condemnation against themselves and argued at trial that they should be executed while excommunicated.

The abuse of powers related to the accused raising a judgement of inquisition against herself. It was noted by the Court that while priests have done this previously, it is the first occasion that the Synod have chosen to act against the practice since the death of Empress Britta.
Medea Ruth pleaded guilty to both charges.

The condemning priest for heresy was the accused.

The condemning priest for abuse of powers was Solas of the Spire of the Waxing Sun, Urizen.

Clemency was pleaded on the accused’s behalf by Ed Watcher.

Guilty of abuse of powers. Fined 25 thrones.

Guilty of heresy and sentenced to death.

The court requested the removal of the accused’s excommunication prior to execution and this was carried out.

Murder
The accused was engaged in a power struggle with the victim, Tuirkane Cordraco, over the future direction of their noble house. The accused defeated the victim in the glory square but this did not resolve their disagreement. The accused demanded a rematch or he would ‘impose discipline’. The accused then slew the victim, breaking his back with his mace.
At trial the accused claimed he was within his rights to execute a member of his own household. He requested penal military service, which was refused on the grounds that being allowed to die in battle is earned and not a right.
Earl Arthur Cordraco pleaded guilty with no clemency plea.
Guilty. Sentenced to death.

At his execution he compounded his mis-deeds by claiming that he was going to the fields of glory, not the labyrinth, as virtues had never been of any use to him.

Criminal damage The accused entered into an agreement with the eternal Scathe to undertake a number of tasks. As a result of their final task, all of the mirrors in Sarvos and a garden in Holberg were destroyed. Value of the items destroyed was assessed by the civil service at 30,000 thrones after consultation with the League egregore. Clemency was accepted on the basis of loyalty to the souls of many of their people, whom Scathe was preventing from returning to the Labyrinth. It was confirmed that thousands of Imperial souls were returned to the labyrinth as a result of their actions.
Jaylus, Kerioth and Ephrael, all of Zephaniah's Lament pleaded guilty, Leon died prior to being brought to trial
A Clemency plea was made by Rane Sherarding of Sherard Hunters Hall.
Guilty. A fine of 300 Thrones was levied in recognition of the substantial damage done to the national hearth magic of the League. All three convicts to be jointly responsible for payment of the fine by 2pm Sunday Autumn 383 YE.
