==Vardas, the Witch-Hunter==
During his lifetime, Vardas was renowned as a tracker, thief-taker and witch-hunter without peer. Remorseless and relentless, Vardas would hound his prey until he caught them. In every story, it was always Vardas’ acute senses and attention to the smallest detail that revealed the clues that exposed the schemes and hiding places of his prey and led to their downfall.
<quote>"No!" shouted Marcin, rising to his feet and putting himself between the arrow's path and Katyn, who cowered behind him.
"Out of the way, you fool!" snapped Vardas, moving to the left to get a clear line of sight past the young boyar. The chair he had risen from finished its backward fall clattering to the ground, yet the vigilant hunter's eyes never left young woman.
"What madness or spirit has possessed you? I will not let you harm my sister."
So intent was Vardas on watching Katyn's every move, Marcin could have been in another room. Nevertheless, he replied, "Your sister has been dead these past eleven years. Your grief blinded you to this, making you all too desirous to accept this foul creature's deceptions. Deceptions that could have been easily seen through, had you but stopped to consider that the real Katyn could not possibly have known that the Volhov, Rebekah, was actually dead, unless she had been present when it happened!"
"Wait!" cried Katyn, stepping out from behind Marcin, "You are mistaken! I..."
Vardas loosed his arrow.

Vardas, the Witch-Hunter

During his lifetime, Vardas was renowned as a tracker, thief-taker and witch-hunter without peer. Remorseless and relentless, Vardas would hound his prey until he caught them. In every story, it was always Vardas’ acute senses and attention to the smallest detail that revealed the clues that exposed the schemes and hiding places of his prey and led to their downfall.

"No!" shouted Marcin, rising to his feet and putting himself between the arrow's path and Katyn, who cowered behind him.
