Nikolovich Drakov, first Tender of the Hearth

The construction of the Hearth of Virtue was commissioned by Nikolovich Drakov as the Bearer of an Imperial Wayleave during the Winter Solstice 382YE. Built in Perumaki, Miekarova, work was completed shortly before the Spring Equinox 383YE.

The Tender of the Hearth is responsible for the safety and wellbeing of those who visit, and study, at the seminary. If the Hearth of Virtue were to be threatened, it would be the responsibility of the Tender to face those threats; likewise should any opportunity related to the Hearth arise the Tender of the Hearth would decide how to respond.

A Portion of Liao

The sinecure provides 16 doses of liao to the Tender each season, to be used as they see fit.

Icon of the Pilgrim

The Hearth of Virtue's function as a seminary school is well known - a place for interested citizens to come and discuss the finer points of the many ceremonies known by Imperial citizens. The most valuable tools used are the icons known across the Empire, especially those that allow the wielder to perform ceremonies. The Tender of the Hearth receives an Icon of the Pilgrim at the Spring Equinox each year for as long as the Hearth of Virtue is appointed by the National Assembly of Varushka.

The Tender of the Hearth is a national position appointed by the Synod. It is elected by judgement of the Varushkan Assembly.

The title can be held by any citizen of Varushka. The Tender has tenure and serves until they die or step down. They can be revoked by the General Assembly, the Varushkan National Assembly, and by the Assembly of the Nine.

Hearth of Virtue

The Hearth of Virtue stands in the Vale of Strascovia next to a temple dedicated to the virtue of Wisdom. The Hearth of Virtue serves as a seminary school. Within it has several classrooms and dormitories for people to learn from storytellers about the Paragons, the Exemplars, and the mysteries of the Way of Virtue. There is a central library, which incorporates many of the writings held in the Anvil Library.

There are seven smaller chapels within the seminary, each dedicated to one of the virtues. At the centre of each chapel stands a hearth fire, which copies the design of the national hearth fire on show during Anvil summits. Each chapel has symbolism throughout showing animals of the appropriate virtue.
