The Blood Red Quays Art Gallery of Sarvos
"Hold the Hundred Throne coin a little higher Lorenzo" Magdelena said as she craned around the enormous easel, "And move slightly to your right, you’re blocking The Colossus behind you."
She thought the composition of the painting to be particularly grand: Lorenzo, sitting upon the wide steps of the elaborate pillared gallery of Sarvos' beautiful new Blood Red Quays Art Gallery overlooking the harbour. On either side of him stood her earlier paintings of The Bloody Great Theatre of Temeschwar and The Blood Red River Museum of Tassato, while behind him in the distance could be seen The Blood Red Roads leading up to the plinths upon which The Colossus towered, straddling the harbour below.
"That's perfect - you look immensely proud." she laughed as she returned to her painting. He looks immensely smug she thought, but perhaps he has good reason to be so, for her painting would incorporate the five Great Works that he and the Butchers Guild had recently funded for The Empire.
She too was proud, that through her actions she had aided a citizen of her great nation to craft their dreams of an artistic legacy into reality. It was entirely fitting, she mused, that the first thing a patron would see when entering the Empire’s greatest Art Gallery, in the greatest city of The Empire, would be the largest ever painting, by the most accomplished artist in the Empire.
The Blood Red Quays Art Gallery of Sarvos was commissioned by Magdelena Alanga di Sarvos and approved by the Imperial Senate in Spring 381YE, in the wake of a powerful surge of interest in the arts.
Paid for by The Bloody Butchers Guild of Temeschwar, it stands on the harbour front of Caricomare right next to the Bloody Canal - so it's no surprise that locals proudly call it "The Bloody Great Gallery".
The fabulous White Granite and red brick exterior is dominated by a pillared first floor balcony: somewhat confusingly known as The Great Gallery.  This provides wonderful views across the harbour to both The Colossus and the 'Lorenzo's Pride' lighthouse.  The architecture has been carefully designed to frame these so that they are shown off as works of art in their own right.
Inside, the museum walls are polished white granite, which contrasts impressively with the red, black and gold frames of the pictures of the permanent collection.  These are displayed in a whole series of halls and galleries featuring portraits of prominent citizens, glorious battle scenes and landscapes.  The most magnificent of these chambers is, unsurprisingly, known as The Butchers Gallery for it features a whole host of portraits of illustrious members of The Butchers Guild past and present.  Individually these are each wonderful portraits, many having been painted by Senator Magdelena Alanga di Sarvos herself, but many visitors find the overall effect overbearing and ostentatious.
More unusually, one of the galleries is devoted to the artwork used in games by the Guild of Good Games.  In this chamber citizens of Sarvos meet regularly to play games and earnestly discuss tactics and strategy which don't always relate to The Empire's wars.  Another chamber is entirely devoted to the monumental markers and milestones of The Blood Red Roads - each individual milestone is inscribed to honour their sponsors, giving an impressive, if somewhat tedious, overall effect.
Other galleries, more subtly decorated with scrolling leaves and images of the rising sun, are devoted to regularly changing temporary exhibitions, many of which subsequently go on tour to the Bloody Great Theatre in Temeschwar and the Blood Red River Museum of Tassato.  The most popular of these displays are the artistic creations entered into regular competitions run by the Assembly of Pride.  The quality and variety of these works inspire all who see them with pride in the Empire's cultural and artistic heritage.
OOC Note: The Blood Red Quays Art Gallery is a great work that provides a pool of 30 votes in the Imperial Synod and 15 additional liao spread among the congregations of Sarvos which are overseen by League priests belonging to the Assembly of Pride.
