Overview

The Chief Wrangler is an Imperial title awarded to a citizen of the Brass Coast. The motion to construct was proposed by Ana i Taziel i Riqueza, as Senator for Segura, at the Summer Solstice 388YE following an opportunity presented by the Imperial orcs of the Sunstorm sept. The Wrangler's Market presents some opportunity to trade cattle to the Suranni - but secretly also acts as a front to enable spying on the territory of Arbonne.

Responsibilities

The Chief Wrangler is responsible for ensuring that sufficient cattle are traded to the Suranni to allow Unshackled scouts to spy on the territory. If the market were to be threatened in any way, it would be the responsibility of the Wrangler to deal with those threats.

Powers

Cattle Trade

Cattle Trade
7 Crowns6 ingots each of orichalcum and weltsilver
17 Crowns12 ingots each of orichalcum and weltsilver
30 Crowns18 ingots each of orichalcum and weltsilver

As a ministry, the position of Chief Wrangler allows the holder to purchase quantities of orichalcum and weltsilver at a set price. The Dhomiro spends their decision about how much money to spend during downtime from their character page. Money (representing cattle) is removed from, and resources are placed into, the character's inventory when the downtime is processed.

Operating the ministry allows the spy network in the territory to continue undetected. As long as the ministry is operated each season, the Suranni will have no way at all to discover the network. Indeed, it is in the interests of corrupt officials not to look too closely and even to cover up any evidence of spying that they did discover - because it might disrupt the lucrative trade.

Appointment

The Chief Wrangler is appointed during the Autumn Equinox. The Wrangler is appointed by citizens of the Brass Coast who control fleets. The voting is handled by the civil servants in the Bourse.

Only a Freeborn character may hold the title. They do not receive a seat on the Bourse. As a title appointed through the Bourse they cannot be revoked by the Synod.

The Title in Play

The role does not provide additional information about events in the Empire, nor allow the player holding it to request special reports or downtime actions. These details are assumed to be below the abstraction layer. The title holder is encouraged to create their own stories about their activities within reasonable limits and to get involved in events appropriate to their title during the game, but they do not have any powers beyond those explicitly listed in the section on powers.

These details exist partly to provide context and character to the role - and partly to allow our writers to use the title as a plot hook. Plot that involves the position will be rare - but all the campaign positions in Empire have these details to create the potential for it to happen.
