The Dancewalker Steading

Overview

This piece of historical research contains information on Aneira and Eurion Dancewalker. It was collated by Albus Thornspire in 381YE and presented to Eleri Bronwen’s Rest, Dredgemaster of Feverwater.

I have attached what information I can find about Eurion and Aneira Dancewalker. I am afraid that there is not much information about these people; although I am sure that their contributions to the Empire were significant and they led virtuous lives, they have not had much written about them in Imperial records.

The Dancewalker Steading

The Dancewalker steading has long been based in Liaven’s Glen, where the steading would walk the trods around the ancient earthworks of Liaven’s Dance. The steading was destroyed when the Jotun invaded in 346YE, and the survivors of the steading moved east to Therunin.

Aneira Dancewalker was the general of the Quiet Step from 344YE to 349YE; she was responsible for gaining the information that led to the defiance of Lustri in Zenith and the almost destruction of the Tainted Basilisk army in the following conflict.

The Quiet Step was then moved to defend Holberg after its attack in 346YE. The Quiet Step was mobilised to move west almost immediately, much to the annoyance of many of the strategy-based members of the military council at the time, and especially that of Empress Giselle who threatened to take control of the army to make it return to Holberg, had she not died in that conflict before the next solstice.

Aneira died in 349YE after having gone through the Sentinel Gate with a small group of Navarr thorns to try to kill one of the Jotun Warlords who was leading the defence of Liathaven. Their mission sabotaged the building of a fortress in Liath’s Ring.

Her adjutant for the first two years was Llion Y’Basden who died in 346YE whilst with the Quiet Step army. Llion stepped down as adjutant whilst temporarily becoming host to Liaven, the Navarr egregore spirit. At the time there were allegations that Aneira had left Llion in charge of the army and deserted her command to deal with a personal matter; this allegation was dropped after the entire Quiet Step army swore loyalty to her personally and swore that General Aneira had not left her post.

There are no records of Aneira having a brother by the name of Eurion although records show that her two children were called Eurion and Siriol. Eurion was a skilled crafter and a member of the Unfettered Mind. Although he never attended Anvil, a declaration about using astronomancy to empower crafting and imbuing the minor properties of Tulpas into jewellery mentioned the work that Eurion had performed. It is thought that Eurion taught his knowledge to a few apprentices. The process added minor effects to the items made, although since it had no practical application it was not thought useful enough to place the secrets into Imperial lore. Eurion was thought to know several useful schema although with no access to a runeforge, it is likely that he was taught these schema by someone else who had created them. Eurion was skilled at making barbed spears and scorpion’s stings and there were many who would come from a long way away to try to purchase. However, it is said that Eurion would only gift one of these items to those who he considered virtuous.

Eurion is thought to have two children, Esyllt and Saer. When the Dancewalker steading fell, Esyllt had recently passed her citizenship test. She swore an oath to her grandmother Aneira to keep walking the trods around Liaven’s Dance. She took her brand oath that day and with a small group she stayed behind to lead them to uphold this oath. Esyllt and her two children Rhian and Sian are believed to have fallen in battle with the Jotun in the last year while still trying to defend the Trods that she swore to protect.

Late Publishing

As noted, the report was provided to Eleri Bronwen’s Rest in 381YE. Unfortunately, due to an administrative error, no copy of the original work was kept by the department of historical records. As a result the work could not be published in full at the time. The Civil Service are grateful to Eleri who discovered the only copy in a packing crate of important valuables shipped out of Therunin when the Druj attacked. We thank her for her Vigilance in keeping this information safe and her Prosperity in creating a new copy for publishing.
