Overview

The Strategos of Navarr was established by a vote of the Senate during the Autumn Equinox 385YE. There are ten strategos in total - one for each of the Imperial nations. The Navarr strategos, unlike the others, has additional responsibilities - they are also the custodian of the Astwin's Rest Wayhouse in Ossium.

Responsibilities

The Strategos of Navarr is responsible for protecting the legal rights of the citizens within Navarr who have been recognised by the Civil Service as being responsible for conjunctions through the Sentinel Gate; to work within the nation of Navarr, and nominated citizens, and with the other strategos to maximise the odds of the Empire's success beyond the Sentinel Gate; to provide tactical, logistical, and personnel support to nominated citizens; to coordinate and provide material support in the form of herbs, mana crystals, potions, equipment, or other specialist items; and to serve as a point of contact for the fighters of their nation intending to take the battlefield. Whilst the strategos has a responsibility to coordinate and support those venturing through the Sentinel Gate there is no expectation that they themselves would need to.

In addition, they are charged with protecting the wayhouse and the Navarr who live in Ossium. If the wayhouse, travellers using the wayhouse, or the Navarr of the territory were to be threatened in any way, it would be the responsibility of the Strategos to deal with those threats. Likewise, if any particular opportunity were to arise related to the wayhouse, the Strategos would expect to be consulted as to how that opportunity might be resolved.

Bounty of Mana

The Strategos of Navarr has custodianship of the Awstin's Rest wayhouse. They receive an income of 12 crystal mana each season.

Appointment

The Strategos of Navarr is appointed during the Winter Solstice each year. It is selected by unanimous decision of Navarr generals. If a unanimous decision cannot be reached, the title may be appointed by the Military Council instead.

The title can be held by any citizen of Navarr. The Strategos serves until the next scheduled election. They can be revoked by the General Assembly, the Navarr National Assembly, and by the Assembly of the Nine.

This title is currently held by Mouse Ddawnswraig; it will be reelected at Winter Solstice 388YE. The table to the right shows the citizens who have been elected to hold this title in the years since Empress Britta died.

Awstin's Rest

Built in Nearweald, the wayhouse marks the losses suffered by Varushka and Navarr against the Druj in Therunin after the Autumn Equinox 386YE. It takes its name from Awstin Embercast, A Navarr who lost their life during the charge of Isaella's Dance that lead the Imperial armies out of the [[Druj trap in Therunin in Winter 386YE. The construction of the wayhouse was funded by Gryiff Embercast, Eurion Firekeeper, and Corwyn Heartsbane, so as to provide hearth and home for any schlacta and thorn that might need it. Every season, mana crystals are gathered from the mithril bowls scattered across the grounds of the wayhouse and sent to the Strategos of Navarr.

Humble in trappings, the wayhouse stands amidst the woods tended by the Pinewheels Mercenary Company. The large wooden doors are flanked by banners depicting the symbols of Isaella's Dance alongside those of the Iron Helms - the Varushkan army that fell alongside the Navarr in the desperate flight from Therunin.
