Overview

The Keeper of the Stand is an Imperial title awarded to a citizen of Navarr. Construction of Micah's Stand Wayhouse was commissioned by the Imperial Senate during the Winter Solstice 386YE, and construction was completed shortly before the Spring Equinox 387YE. More information on the opportunity can be found in the Wasp nest wind of fortune.

As a Navarr wayhouse, Micah's Stand supports Navarr living in Reikos. This means that the civil service can find Navarr characters a new resource in the territory for the normal cost; such resources do not suffer the usual problems with being established in a different nation; Navarr living here gain all the regular benefits provided by great works; and they can participate in the election of a specific Navarr senator.

Responsibilities

The Keeper of the Stand is responsible for working towards the reclamation of Vale's Lament from the vallorn. In addition, they are charged with protecting the wayhouse and the Navarr who live in Reikos. If the wayhouse, travellers using the wayhouse, or the Navarr of the territory were to be threatened in any way, it would be the responsibility of the Keeper to deal with those threats. Likewise, if any particular opportunity were to arise related to the wayhouse, the Keeper would expect to be consulted as to how that opportunity might be resolved.

Powers

Bounty of the Gardens

The Keeper of the Stand has custodianship of a sinecure. They receive 10 drams of random herbs and 10 doses of liao each season.

Appointment

The Keeper of the Stand is appointed during the Spring Equinox each year. As a national position, it is elected by unanimous decision of the Navarr senators.

The title can only be held by a citizen of Navarr. They can be revoked by the General Assembly, the Navarr Assembly, and the Assembly of the Nine.

Recent Elections

This title is currently held by Angela RavensOak; it will be reelected at Spring Equinox 389YE. The table to the right shows the citizens who have been elected to hold this title in the years since Empress Britta died.

Micah's Stand Wayhouse

When Reikos was freed from the Druj, and the vile citadel of Urith Barath was torn down, the Navarr and Highborn worked together to translate the herbals claimed from the Stone Toad sept. Since then, there have been Navarr living around, and caring for, the Gardens of High Chalcis. When the Last Battle Wayhouse was built in the Barrens, the steading of Micah's Stand - a small group devoted to the memory of the Highborn who welcomed them in – suggested that a wayhouse be built in eastern Reikos. Among other things this would allow the Navarr of Therunin to live close to their home whilst still being relatively safe from the Druj.

Several of the larger chapters of Chalcis Mount supported the plan. Micah's Stand, and others like it, had proved excellent neighbours, and they well remember the suffering of knowing that your home is under the terror of the Druj. The proposed building cost a little more than usual, but attracted skilled Navarr herbalists. The exchange of skills with the citizens who tend the Gardens of High Chalcis benefits the Empire directly, increasing the bounty of herbs delivered to the Benefactor of High Chalcis.

The Wayhouse itself is an open and welcoming building surrounded by beautiful gardens dedicated both to the cultivation of herbs and to presenting plants from all corners of the Empire. Wherever a Navarr striding passes, they bring back cuttings and seeds to Micah's Stand and the gardeners find a way to help the plants prosper. Walking through the gardens provides a sense of just how grand and diverse the Empire is, and how wide the world has become. Visitors of all nations speak of this as a sobering, inspirational experience.

As well as providing the usual benefits of a wayhouse, Micah's Stand also serves as a place for physicks, apothecaries, herbalists, and adepts of healing magic - especially magicians of the [[Silver Chalice[[ - to meet and share their expertise with one another. A number of the healers who escaped the fall of Peakedge Song - Highborn, Navarr, and Great Forest Orcs alike, have taken up permanent residence here to suport the business of the wayhouse.

The Title in Play

The role does not provide additional information about events in the Empire, nor allow the player holding it to request special reports or downtime actions. These details are assumed to be below the abstraction layer. The title holder is encouraged to create their own stories about their activities within reasonable limits and to get involved in events appropriate to their title during the game, but they do not have any powers beyond those explicitly listed in the section on powers.

These details exist partly to provide context and character to the role - and partly to allow our writers to use the title as a plot hook. Plot that involves the position will be rare - but all the campaign positions in Empire have these details to create the potential for it to happen.
