Arcane Inquisitor
Overview
The Arcane Inquisitor is an Imperial title created by the Senate during the Winter Solstice 385YE. They are appointed by the Assembly of Nine and have a responsibility to oversee the virtue of titleholders in the Conclave. Although the Imperial Constitution protects positions associated with the Conclave from revocation, the titleholders are not immune to the scrutiny of the Synod, including the power of inquisition.
Responsibilities
The Arcane Inquisitor is expected to advise Conclave titleholders about the Way of Virtue. There is some expectation that they will work alongside the Witness of Conclave and the Sevenfold Path to ensure that activity that might constitute a religious crime is acted upon so that an appropriate sanction can be administered.
Powers
Inquisit Conclave Titleholder
Once per summit, the Arcane Inquisitor may issue a writ of inquisition against any Conclave titleholder without the need for judgement in an Assembly. Eligible Conclave titles are the grandmaster of each Conclave order and any title appointed by Declaration of Candidacy. They must inform the Tribune of the Synod of their intention to issue a writ. The Tribune will update the judgements boards in the Hub so that other priests are aware of the action, but no vote is required. The Inquisitor is not required to use their judgement, if any, to employ this power.
The additional writ of judgement is issued under the authority of the Assembly of Nine - it is escalated to a sanction in the Assembly of Nine if required.
Appointment
The Arcane Inquisitor is appointed during the Autumn Equinox. They are chosen with a judgement of appointment by the Assembly of the Nine.
The title can be held by any Imperial citizen. They can be revoked by the General Assembly and the Assembly of the Nine.
