Statement of principle

The following statements of principle were presented to the assemblies of the Imperial Synod. Fourteen of these statements achieved a Greater Majority, meaning they will be distributed to appropriate assemblies.

Judgement 8

  • Assembly: General Assembly
  • Raised By: Solas
  • Judgement: In the confict in Asavea we see echoes of the Patrician War and Thrace's rebellion. We call on all Imperial citizens to aid the peoples of Marracoss and Emphedor in their struggle for liberty in any way possible. We denounce any military captain who would seek to profit from this conflict with the coin of slavers.
  • Outcome: Upheld (1219 - 165)

Judgement 11

  • Assembly: Navarr National
  • Raised By: Idanach Listing Beacon
  • Judgement: We condemn the murder of Achilles Damakan's Forge in the strongest terms. It achives nothing but shows a shocking lack of Pride and Loyalty. We further call for the killer - who reportedly said "this is for the Quiet Step" - to come forward and face the consequnces of their actions, and we call anyone with relevant information to share it. Remember Isaella; even the most virtuous assassin is not above the law.
  • Outcome: Upheld (142 - 10)

Judgement 14

  • Assembly: Prosperity Virtue
  • Raised By: Onan of the Chantry of the Silver Skull
  • Judgement: It has come to our attention that many in the Empire believe that the resting place of Good Walder is unknown. Rejoice, for his remains are safely interred in the Chantry of the Silver Skull in Necropolis, and have been for centuries!
  • Outcome: Upheld (126 - 13)

Judgement 16

  • Assembly: General Assembly
  • Raised by: Rune Rathmore
  • Judgement: I, Rune Rathmore, declare that corruption (the purchasing of votes through coin or influence of power) be declared unacceptable within the SYnod and be declared punishable in the same regard as misuse of priestly powers.
  • Outcome: Not Upheld (562 - 944)

Judgement 22

  • Assembly: Wintermark National
  • Raised By: Gunnbrand Ironwill
  • Judgement: The heroism of Wintermark is not found ony in the might of Steinr courage, but also the cunning of the Suaq and the wisdom of the Kallavesi. We fight with honour in our way not the way of the Jotun, and the magics of our people should not be disrespected. Our strength comes from being THREE PEOPLES ONE NATION.
  • Outcome: Upheld (226 - 0)

Judgement 29

  • Assembly: Wintermark National
  • Raised By: Pahkina
  • Judgement: A hero's tale ends in a good death, we know this to be true. We have warred with the Jotun bfore, they are honourable fores. We believe that under a flag of truce the ghodi and shaman of the Jotun and the Stormcrows and scops of wintermark should meet to tell stories of battle and heroes that fell in battle from our shared history, so all may know the heroism of the dead. A winged messenger should be sent to their king and queen - Glamundar Arcason King of the South and Yrssa Jansdottir Queen of the North.
  • Outcome: Upheld (165-33)

Judgement 33

  • Assembly: General Assembly
  • Raised By: Edward Novarion, called Watcher
  • Judgement: We have heard the claim of Sumaah that they now hold the heart of the Way, and that they intend to encourage the faithful of other nations to pilgrimage there. We reject this insult to our Pride, and reaffirm that Bastion, the White City, is the heart of the faith. The Imperial Synod and the people of the Empire will continue to prove this through virtuous action and so ac as a beacon to all the world.
  • Outcome: Upheld (1066 - 193)

Judgement 35

  • Assembly: Prosperity Virtue
  • Raised By: Tabitha of the Chantry

Judgement 44

  • Assembly: Navarr National

  • Outcome: Upheld with a Greater Majority (168 - 0) Greater Majority

Judgement 45

  • Assembly: Freeborn National
  • Raised By: J'Zarr i Shartha i Guerra
  • Judgement: The Freeborn assembly does not believe it is virtuous to gain Prosperity at the cost of spreading idolatry throughout the Coast. We do not support the Iron Qunat's being constructed by anyone who will include idolatrous imagery in its construction.
  • Outcome: Upheld with Greater Majority and Primacy (74 - 0) Greater Majority

Judgement 46

  • Assembly: Assembly of the Nine
  • Raised By: Lev Unbound
  • Judgement: The Synod has the duty and moral authority to promote and safeguard the Way of virtue and ensure the virtue of those who represent and lead. The current power of revocation is not sufficient to this task. This Synod asks the senate to amend the power to revocation to prevent the reappointing of a virtuous citizen to the same Imperial title for the duration of one year.
  • Outcome: Upheld ( 4 - 0)

Judgement 49

  • Assembly: Navarr National
  • Raised By: Meredith Nighthaven
  • Judgement: We the Navarr welcome the orcs of the Great Forest Tribe to walk the trods with us. We ask the guides of Navarr to assist them. We ask they walk with respect and urge Navarr to do the same.

  • Outcome: Upheld (194 - 0)

Judgement 53

  • Assembly: Navarr National
  • Raised By: Neala Blackhawk
  • Judgement: We the Navarr national assembly encourage guides to attend the military council to ensure clear lines of communication between the guides of the Navarr and their generals. We nominate Neala to act a liason in this endeavour.
  • Outcome: Upheld (138 - 14)

Judgement 58

  • Assembly: Prosperity Virtue
  • Raised By: Cesare Enzo di Trivento
  • Judgement: That the children of Mournwold recently orphaned through the Jotun war and Imperial magic require a great orphanage to house and educate them. I propose the Empire offers their support in the building of this great work.
  • Outcome: Upheld with Greater Majority (215 - 0) Greater Majority

Judgement 59

  • Assembly: Navarr National
  • Raised By: Brat Umbral Path
  • Judgement: On a mission to Liathaven there were more imperial heros eager to fulfill their duty than could go. When asked to sacrifice their place for the success of the mission, the following people put the needs of the Empire above their own. • Outcome: Upheld (106 - 0)

Judgement 64

  • Assembly: Highguard National
  • Raised By: Delilah of Felix's Watch
  • Judgement: The Academy has been having deals with the eternals. Although they are not the worst eternals, they ar still eternals. Thus they are bad. Not only this but they have been bringing the children to visit and encourage them to make deals. This should be stopped.
  • Outcome: Upheld (286 - 72)

Judgement 65

  • Assembly: Navarr National
  • Raised By: Iniska Ahwood
  • Judgement: We support our generals to move a Navarr army to Semmerholm this season with the promise that Dawnish armies will support us in Liathaven.
  • Outcome: Withdrawn (122 - 10 at the point it was withdrawn)

Judgement 66

  • Assembly: Wintermark National
  • Raised By: Maarit Suvidottir
  • Judgement: In Wintermark, a hero has a name, given in recognition of deeds in service of nation, Empire, and the Way, It is shared as a story to inspire heroism, and for some, it is inscribed on the soul for future generations. A hero's name is not simply their own. The Synod does not have the power to take away or grant a scop name. Understand that if you remove a testimonied scop name it does not affect the skein or deny the name, It does however deprive future generations of the virtuous inspiration.
  • Outcome: Upheld (199 - 0)

Judgement 67

  • Assembly: Wintermark National
  • Raised By: Osfrid of Wyveern's Watch
  • Judgement: The actions of the Wintermark armies and military units in Sermersuaq this season has displayed courage at arms, loyalty to Wintermark, and Pride in defending our homeland. Nothing short of Heroic. The nations should support this. Business owners should hire mercenaries, sailors should join supply lines. The mines, forests, and artisans should forge weapons for our warriors. The farmers, man sites, and herb gardens should put their resources to the war effort. • Outcome: Upheld (52 - 0)

Judgement 69

  • Assembly: General Assembly
  • Raised By: Esau
  • Judgement: The Sevenfold Path has pledged to grant resources for virtuous magical works. Successful judgement should be brought to the grandmaster's attention for consideration.
  • Outcome: Upheld (598 - 158)

Judgement 71

  • Assembly: Ambition Virtue
  • Raised By: Medea Ruth Irremais
  • Judgement: At the Spring Equinox 382YE, a Hallowing of Ambition manifested on a bandage belonging to Medea Ruth, with nobody having claimed to place it. Following careful investigation, by spiritual, magical, and mundane means, no alternative cause for the Hallowing was found. We recognise the spontaneous hallowing of Medea Ruth's bandage to Ambition as a miracle.
  • Outcome: Upheld (35 - 34)

Judgement 72

  • Assembly: Dawn National
  • Raised By:Rancle de Rondell
  • Judgement: The military might of Dawn is dedicated to the support of the Empire and the Empire alone. As such, the Dawnish assembly believes it unacceptable to see Dawnish military units accepting mercenary work on behalf of non-Imperial nations or powers.

Judgement 3

  • Assembly: Assembly of the Nine
  • Raised by: Jorma Steelhail
  • Judgement: The institution of slavery is a dark stain on the soul that will never wash clean. Evey citizen should take arms in defence of those who fight against slavery against any who threaten it. We send Jorma Steelhail with 150 doses of liao to tell every citizen of the Empire to reach out to help those who have been enslaved - all that is worthwhile is shared with those who deserve it.
  • Ouctome: Upheld with a Greater Majority (7-0, margin of 7). It is not clear whether Jorma Steelhail or Esake Crowspeark (judgement 10) will enact this mandate.
  • Notes: The opportunity is detailed here.

Judgement 19

  • Assembly: Highborn National
  • Raised By: Bartimaeus
  • Judgement: Virtuous people set prices for things which are fair, and buy and sell them accordingly. To do otherwise, to invoke market forces and economic factors, is to subsume human destiny and will to an impartial, immoral, and unvirtuous force. We send Bartimaeus with 50 doses of liao to urge those Imperial citizens in possession of white granite to deal through the Cinderpath Exchange for the betterment of the virtuous rather than to indulge their personal greed.
  • Outcome: Upheld (601 - 92, Greater Majority). If Bartimaeus provides 50 doses of liao, Highborn citizens will look for alternatives to the public auction at Anvil for purposes of selling white granite as described here.

Judgement 20

  • Assembly: General Assemby
  • Raised By: Jonah Yakovitch
  • Judgement: The Way unites humanity through the Seven Virtues. The people of Asavea will more readily accept the teachings of the Way from their own people; creating Asavean priests will help to spread the faith. Yet only those who show a true commitment to the doctrines of the faith should receive training in the use of liao. We send Jonah Yakovitch with 50 doses of liao to support the training of new priests from among those judged most sincere in their devotion to the Way.
  • Outcome: Upheld (1265-119, margin of 1146). If Jonah Yakovitch provides 50 doses of liao, the Temple of the Way in Nemoria will begin to train devout priests chosen from among Asavean candidates as detaied here.

Judgement 23

  • Assembly: Highborn National

We send Irontide Lok with 25 doses of Liao to urge everyone to welcome any orc who is willing to serve our Legions, our nation and the Empire unstintingly.
  • Outcome: Upheld with a Greater Majority (80 - 0, margin of 80). If Irontide Lok provides 25 doses of liao, the Imperial Orcs nation will be encouraged to look to their future and build a new, martially inclined, nation in Skarsind as detailed here.

Judgement 30

  • Assembly: General Assembly
  • Raised By: Franco i Erigo
  • Judgement: The Way unites humanity through the Seven Virtues. The people of Asavea will more readily accept the teachings of the Way from their own people; creating Asavean priests will help to spread the faith. Yet only those who show a true commitment to the doctrines of the faith should receive training in the use of liao. We send Franco i Erigo with 50 doses of liao to support the training of new priests from among those judged most sincere in their devotion to the Way.
  • Outcome: Upheld (765 - 414, margin of 351).
  • Notes:Although this mandate passed, the same mandate was also raised by Jonah Yakovitch and passed with a greater margin.

Judgement 31

  • Assembly: Urizen National
  • Raised by: Palladius
  • Judgement: Those who seek to teach others should first be challenged to prove their own Wisdom. We send Palladius with 50 doses of liao to urge potential students to study at the Temple of the Winds so that it may be swiftly restored.
  • Outcome: Upheld 72 - 0. If Palladius provids 50 doses of liao, any mandate that does not achieve a greater majority will have no effect on Urizen, as detailed here.
  • Notes: This mandate will only take effect if the Temple of the Winds is rebuilt and the demands of the sword scholars met. It is not clear at this time whether it complements or supercedes Judgement 39.

Judgement 34

  • Assembly: General Assembly
  • Raised By: Aniera Exile's End
  • Judgement: Now is the time of venom and blood. Imperial forces facing our barbarian foes must take up defensive positions so that every soldier who can be spared may fight the vallorn. This current opportunity will not soon come again. It must be seized now, else it will be lost. We send Aniera Exile's End with 100 liao to remind the Empire that the barbarians have be driven back before but the time to strike the vallorn is now for now is the time of venom and blood. Please see additional papers on Synod board.
  • Outcome: Not Upheld (586 - 525)
  • Notes: The Throne used their Custodian of the Empire power to cause this mandate to require a Greater Majority.

Judgement 39

  • Assembly: Wisdom Virtue
  • Raised By: Amnis Johan Menkovich
  • Judgement: The example of the sword scholars of Urizen should inspire all those who follow the path of Wisdom. We must all test what we learn; only fools accept hearsay as truth. We send Galene Netherwatch with 150 doses of liao to urge everyone to despise folly and chastise the fool that spreads it, especially when it is done by those close to you.
  • Outcome: Upheld with Greater Majority (212 - 22). Provided Galene Netherwatch provides 150 doses of liao, the people of the Empire will test everything they learn meaning that any future mandate that does not reach a Greater Majority will be ineffective, as detailed here.
  • Notes: It is not clear at this time whether this mandate supercedes or complements Judgement 31.

Judgement 51

  • Assembly: General Assembly
  • Raised By: Friar John of the Mourn
  • Judgement: The ghosts of the Greensward require careful handling. It is not enough simply to exorcise these fallen warriors - first we must attempt to offer them comfort and acknowledge their sacrifice. We send Albert Fugglestone-Copperhill with 50 doses of liao to help the spirits that haunt the ruins of Overton to pass on to the Labyrinth, or to find their way across the Howling Abyss.
  • Notes: Upheld (1032- 10). If Albert Fugglestone-Copperhill provides 50 doses of liao, many of the Jotun and Imperial ghosts in the Greensward will be laid to rest, making it safe for settlers to return as detailed here.

Evaluation

The Synod made the following judgements of excommunication, inquisition, revocation, and sanction.

Judgement 6

  • Assembly: Pride Virtue
  • Raised By: Rane Sherarding
  • Judgement: Vindication. Miriam of the Cenotaph's name was brought to me with claims she "saved Highguard" in battle. Initial investigations found no opposition to this. Inquisition sealed it. As a runner she put herself in extreme danger to summon reinforcements to surrounded Highborn forces. This short judgement cannot do the tale justice, but I name it heroism. She named it her duty. I urge the Highborn to hear her story, and tell it as an example of these highest duties. Let them take Pride in their hero and use this as an inspiration to which they may aspire. Miriam herself is warmly reminded her next duty is to continue setting this example to elevate others with Pride.
  • Outcome: Upheld with a Greater Majority (214-0)

Judgement 15

  • Assembly: General Assembly
  • Raised By: Ephron of Adina's Charge
  • Judgement: Inquisition. I call Emilia Ankarien, Archmage of Winter, to Inquisition regarding Wendigo's interest. Sunday, Summer summit 382YE, Highguard chapel, 14:00.
  • Outcome: Upheld (1136-37).

Judgement 21

  • Assembly: Loyalty Virtue
  • Raised By: Able of the Shattered Tower
  • Judgement: Inquisition I call Hazel of the Shattered Tower to Inquisition regarding the matter of her recent actions. The Inquisition will take place at 11pm on the Saturday of the Summer Solstice in the Shattered Tower camp.
  • Outcome: Upheld (191 - 10)

Judgement 36

  • Assembly: Prosperity virtue
  • Raised By: Zira of the Chantry
  • Jugement: Vindication. Following the accusation of Brother Able of the Shattered Tower a thorough investigation has been performed. My findings are that Brother Dagon exhibits NO miserly behaviour and is vindicated fully. Dagon acts with Prosperity every day for the benefit of his chapter, Reikos and Highguard. Brother Able will be publically apologising.
  • Outcome: Upheld with a Greater Majority (141 - 0)

Judgement 37

  • Assembly: Prosperity Assembly
  • Raised By: Onan of the Chantry
  • Judgement: Penance. Regarding the ritual texts used with past life visions held by the Auric Horizon. These rituals must not sit idle. Ensure that they are used as often as possible. Ensure that the archmages of Night and Day are kept appraised of these rituals. Ensure that the Gatekeepers' Council are kept appraised of these rituals. It is perfectly prosperous to continue charging for the casting of these rituals. It is virtuous to expect a large recompense for putting them into general Imperial lore, should you decide to do so. We find the Auric Horizon to be a Prosperous and hard-working coven.

Judgement 48

  • Assembly: Prosperity Virtue
  • Raised By: Yavona of the Chantry
  • Judgement: Vindication. Following inquisition by the Chantry of the Silver Skull, Cesare Sanguineo Rezia di Tassato is VINDICATED of all accusations of miserly behaviour. We find his actions to have been beacons of prosperity, and as such offer the Testimony "Prosperous Benefactor." "Bread, blood and coin are the currencies of our Empire We must be cautious in how we spend them" - Cesare di Tassato.
  • Outcome: Upheld with a Greater Majority (149 - 0)

Judgement 54

  • Assembly: Ambition Virtue
  • Raised By: Roland de Rondell
  • Judgement: Vindication.Having called Medea Ruth to inquisition last summit to answer questions relating to the appearance of Ambition auras in a number of places around Anvil I now write the following vindication:

Medea Ruth takes full responsibility for said auras. This was her doing. However, upon investigation and conversation with the magistrates I bear witness that she broke no law. Furthermore I find her intent in this and action to be virtuous, governed by both her Ambition and her desire to inspire Ambition in others. However, it is also my judgement that, while virtuous, Medea Ruth has allowed the single-minded focus of the merrow to cloud the bright light of her more elevated human-like soul, thus denying others the opportunity to be inspired fully by her ambition. Therefore although I find her intent in this matter to be Ambitious and virtuous, I would strongly recommend that for the betterment of her soul Medea Ruth set aside one day in seven to actively strive for more humanity. be human, not merrow. Such is my judgement.

  • Outcome: Upheld (60 - 0)
  • Notes: It might be noted that, including as it does suggestions as to how Medea Ruth might improve their virtue, this judgement is closer to penance than vindication.
